Physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of construction materials, applications of micro-mechanics, composite materials manufacturing, constitutive modeling, fiber reinforced concrete, fracture mechanics, experimental stress analysis, blended cements, and modeling of durability.  These are divided into three main research themes, structural materials research, sustainability based design and mechanics of materials.


  • Structural Materials deals with cement-based materials composites for construction repair retrofit, durability modeling and blended cements research areas.
  • Sustainability Based Design or Environmentally Sustainable design (also called environmentally conscious design, eco design, etc.) is the philosophy of designing physical objects, the built environment, and services to comply with the principles of ecological sustainability.
  • The area of Mechanics of Materials is involved with a broad range of applications of experimental stress analysis in the development, modeling and characterization of materials and systems for use in various infrastructure applications.  These areas are categorized each in their own sub-discipline.
